DANCE Denmark’19 is a 6 weeks-long cultural exchange program that is committed to engage with dance as a creative movement practice with many forms of expression.
For this Summer, the Dance Denmark cultural exchange program will continue to push the art form of dance into fascinating new territory with multiple works on the program performed by outstanding dance students of The Ohio State University. With these public performance experience, we seek to remind us all of the power of dance and its ability to bring people together from different cultures.
The performance "Mosaic" includes new works by choreographers Daniel Roberts and Ann Sofie Clemmensen as well as works by participating student choreographers with a unique talent for dance making. We are exploring body architecture and geometry created through fast directional changes and bodily precision, juxtaposed by our exploration of our body in dialog with gravity through falling and lifting.

Daniel Roberts is an American choreographer and educator. As a former company member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Roberts had the opportunity to perform and create several original roles in Cunningham’s choreography. Roberts worked in Denmark as rehearsal assistant/music liaison to choreographer Kim Brandstrup and composer Kim Helweg for their work “Eidolon” for the Royal Danish Ballet. Roberts was later invited by Tim Rushton, director of Danish Dance Theater, to serve as rehearsal director for the Danish Dance Theater.
Ann Sofie Clemmensen is a Danish choreographer and educator that for the past eight years have had her based in the United States, where she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. As a performer, she has worked collaboratively with choreographers, such as Henri Oguike, Darshan Singh-Buller, Wendy Houston, Francesco Scavetta and others. Her choreographic works have been featured both nationally and internationally, recently in Beijing, China and Puebla, Mexico.
